iDevices Smart Kitchen iGrill and iGrillmini

iDevices Smart Kitchen Thermometer and Thermometermini

If anyone asks – you can grill up a perfect steak on your BBQ any time of day.  But the reality is that you, ‘the grill master’, often second guess yourself whether the meat is properly cooked and sometimes completely overcook it.   But what if you could cook your meat to perfection every time?  The iDevices iGrill and iGrillmini connects with your iOS device (an Andriod version will be released in 2014) and lets you monitor your food from up to 150 feet away using the iDevices app.  Just insert the temperature probe into your meat, let the app know what you’re cooking and it’ll let you know when it’s ready.  The iGrill model is equipped with two probes and allows you to monitor two temperatures simultaneously, while the iGrillmini is a single probe, compact model.  Both models feature a magnetic mounting which lets you conveniently mount them to any metal surface around the BBQ or in the kitchen.  $40 (iGrillmini ) and $80 (iGrill).

The Gentlemen’s Guide to Cocktails

cocktail book

You fancy yourself a bit of an expert when it comes to spirits. Your knowledge of scotch is commendable and your home bar is impressive, but when it comes to drink options; the choice is between a rye and ginger, vodka soda and scotch with more scotch. You can have the nicest tackle-box on the lake, but without a mastery of your bait, you’re just a guy making boring drinks (and masturbation humour). The Gentlemen’s Guide to Cocktails, by Alfred Tong and Jack Hughes, contains 150 recipes to try and perfect. The cocktails are well explained with some tidbits of history and etiquette surrounding the preparation of drinks. The art style is straight out of the 60’s, which will get those Mad Men fans in the mood to dust off the old Netflix account and go reconnect with Mr. Don Draper. Get a hardcover copy for $14.

Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whisky

We know you love anchorman Ron Burgundy and sometimes, just sometimes, you’d like to be a man just like him.  And now thanks to the Ron Burgundy Blended Scotch Whisky you can get a feel what it means to be a legend – on a Friday or Saturday night.  This 80-proof scotch is just what the man himself is fond of.  It’s kind of a big deal, but it’ll only cost you $25.  All you have to do is grow your own mustache.

Pumpkin Tap Kit

Anyone can carve a pumpkin, but it takes a special kind of guy to take said pumpkin and turn it into a receptacle for alcohol. The Pumpkin Tapping Kit from KegWorks is great for any upcoming Halloween parties you have planned and it’s as easy to set up as sticking a tap in a hollow pumpkin. You will need to supply your own booze; either a mini keg that can fit inside the pumpkin or fill it up with a big ol’ batch of moonshine. Whatever gets your monster mashing. This cool DIY kit includes the brass tap fixture with chrome finish and detailed instructions on how to install. $35.

Stone Drink Dispenser

What’s on tap? Straight up bourbon you say? You’ll be hard pressed to find this in any bar or pub, as it would bankrupt them from over pours; but the Stone Drink Dispenser is a cool addition for any man cave. Hand crafted from cobbled granite, the dispenser has a stainless steel spigot and a beach stone tap; it’s like the water cooler of every man’s dreams. Most regular bottle types should fit, but don’t try getting your “Texas Mickey” of rum in there. $125.

AnestasiA “Sensational Spirit” Limited Edition Flavored Vodka

Summer is a great time to get together with friends, have some drinks and get into some shenanigans.  The AnestasiA Limited Edition Flavored Vodka offers a delightfully smooth and delicious taste that’s hand crafted in Bend, Oregon.  It begins with the finest batches of locally grown grains and very pure water that flows from the snow-capped Cascade Mountains.  As the water crosses through lava bed rivers, it picks up essential minerals and is naturally purified.  It is then distilled 5 times and filtered 5 more times through Quartz Crystal, producing its very fine taste.  And if all that wasn’t enough, thanks to the fact that it is infused with botanicals, it is said to create a frost-like experience as you drink it – it cools without ice.  The knockout architectural bottle, designed by New York industrial designer Karim Rashid, further enhances the experience by making you feel like you’re consuming a spirit that’s out of this world.  Currently available only in the US.  $39.99.  Order yours at

Avion Tequila Silver

Did anyone else not realize that Avion was more than just a lousy Turtle storyline on HBO’s Entourage? I found out this weekend that it’s real, and guys; it is dangerously good. This tequila goes down so smooth that I didn’t realize how extremely intoxicated I was, until it was too late. Fortunately, I’m a charming drunk. With subtle hints of mint, rosemary and pepper, Avion prides itself on being made of only finest Blue Weber Agave and that explains the steep price point. Pick up a bottle for your entourage this weekend and hope that you aren’t the Turtle of the group. Oh, and drink responsibly; this stuff will sneak up on you. $69.95 for a 750ml bottle.

Kettle Pizza Deluxe Kit

Do you want to make your own pizza? I don’t mean pop a frozen pizza in the oven; I mean make your own pizza from scratch. It just isn’t the same without a pizza oven, until now. Assuming you have an 18.5 or 22.5 inch kettle grill, the Kettle Pizza Deluxe Kit will turn your charcoal or wood grill into a bona fide pizza oven. The kit includes the stainless sleeve with built in handles and thermometer, an aluminum pan, a 15 inch cordierite stone and wooden pizza peel. You might have to unscrew your barbecue lid if it has a hinge, but it’ll be more than worth it when you are enjoying a chicken, bacon and broccoli pizza with Italian sausage infused crust. And hey, maybe there are three layers of cheese on this halo of deliciousness. $199.95.

Ember Hangover Burner

If you’re a weekend warrior like us, you enjoy hitting some patios for drinks on the weekend and maybe some shots too.  Of course, you pay the price for all the fun the next morning.  In the best case scenario you wake up with a little bit of a headache the next day; in the worst case you wake up a little buzzy still.  But most times you probably wake up with a good ol’ hangover.  The Ember Hangover Burner is hoping to change that, one hangover at a time, by offering concoction consisting of all natural ingredients including Prickly pear extract, Ginger root, vitamin B-12, Molybdenum, Milk Thistel extract and N-Acetyl Cystein.  Simply drink it before hitting the sack and it’ll completely erase any wrong doing while drinking – we’re totally kidding – but seriously it will make you feel much fresher the next morning.  Then since you’re feeling good again, as we like to say, you can “rinse and repeat”.

Whisky Lovers Gift Set

There is nothing better to show your sophistication than taking sipping a high quality whisky in a USS Enterprise bath robe.  Okay, maybe the bath robe has nothing to do with it.  But if you enjoy a nice, smooth whisky, enjoy it like a real gentleman – two fingers of Scotch in a lowball glass, on the rocks (literally).  This gift set comes with two black lowball glasses and six glossy polished soapstone whisky stones.  The stones eliminate two undesirable effects of ice: it is actually too cold, and it melts therefore diluting your drink.  The soapstone cubes on the other hand chill your Scotch to a perfect temperature.  And don’t forget, enjoying whisky is always better with a friend.  $65.

Lotus Portable Grill

Everything tastes better when you grill it. A nice steak, corn on the cob and even last night’s pizza all taste better off the grill. If you live in a high rise, you don’t have the space (or the legal right) to have a real, full-on barbecue on your balcony. Sure electric grills are okay but the Lotus Grill gives you that smoky charcoal flavour in a compact and smokeless form. There is a fan inside that does away with the smoke somehow; which prevent any mistaken calls to the fire department. Available in: black, green, red orange, yellow and purple. $200 or $299 for the XL.

Electric Amphibious Drink Delivery Vehicle

In addition to being able to blaze through off road trails, this amphibious vehicle also transforms into a water craft with the push of a button.  But the really cool thing about it is that when in the land mode, its wheel wells can be used to hold four bottles or cans and you (the captain) can deliver them to anyone that needs a cold one.  Independent left and right wheel controls allow amazing maneuverability and 360 degree spins.  To have even more fun, you can use the on-board water cannon to blast your friends and pets with water.  Thanks to its high intensity LED lights, it can be navigated easily at night.  Runs on a single 9V battery.  $99.

SolSource Sun-powered Grill

The SolSource Kickstarter project allows you to grill, steam, bake, boil, or fry your favorite meals, using nothing but the power of the sun.  This grill is powerful, durable and easy to use plus you can feel good about yourself because it’s totally emission-free.  You’re tree-hugging friends will be very impressed.  It was originally tested with nomads on the Himalayan Plateau and now it’s about to become a reality with the city folk; the project has already achieved its funding goal.  Granted it’s a little too big to bring along on a camping trip but it’ll certainly easily fit on your backyard patio.  $250.

The Bombay Sapphire East Gin Wheel

If there are two things men love, it’s drinking and secret compartments. In celebration of gin and tonic craftsmanship, Bombay Sapphire created an awesome turntable which will provide all you amateur mixologists everything you need to make the perfect G and T (though if they wanted to do that, they’d have included a bottle of Hendrick’s). The Gin Wheel comes with four glasses, four coasters, a stirring stick, ice thongs, jigger, a paring knife and a one liter bottle of the new Bombay Sapphire East. The best part is the secret compartments for your ice, glasses and garnishes. The beautiful walnut exterior will make the Gin Wheel a great addition to your office as your secret bar, but you’ll have to hide the gin in your desk. $500.

Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill

When I was young, Hank Hill influenced me to believe that you can’t do better than clean burning propane and propane accessories. Then I realized I’m really not that picky as long as we are barbecuing something that used to be an animal (Heck I’ll take a hotdog anytime and anywhere too). That’s where the Weber Go-Anywhere Charcoal Grill comes in. This portable grill is great for camping, tailgating and a day at the beach. With a four square meter grill, you’ll have plenty of room for all of your steaks, burgers or lamb shanks. And you won’t have to worry about exploding, sorry Hank. $59.99.

Forty Creek Copper Pot Reserve

If you live in Ontario, Canada you’re undoubtedly dreading the liquor store strike starting this Friday. You better stock up while you can and I recommend grabbing a bottle of Forty Creek Copper Pot Reserve. Picked it up last week and boy is it smooth. It has a coppery taste (surprisingly in a good way); probably because it is blended with hints of toffee, nuts, spice and marmalade. Did I mention how smooth it is? It doesn’t even need ice. Copper Pot is 43%, which I guess is a new thing with whiskeys; a way of balancing the rich flavours. Definitely a great addition to your shelf, and remember to stock up for the holiday weekend. $28.45.

Soda Stream Starter Kit

Love the taste of soda but don’t want to use all the plastic bottles? Maybe you just want to experiment freely with flavour combinations. With over sixty flavours available, Soda Stream lets you make your own pop at home. The machine carbonates water in seconds; then all you have to do is pour in the flavour/flavours you want and the fizz will do the mixing. Aside from being environmentally friendly, the flavours also use sugar cane instead of corn syrup which your body struggles to digest. I’m not saying this is a “healthy” alternative, but it is certainly less terrible for you. Flavour packs typically cost seven dollars and they are good for almost ten litres of soda. The CO2 tank provides sixty litres and you can exchange your empties for eighteen dollars. The site says you’ll spend about eighty-eight cents per litre, so you’ll save money in the long run as well. And don’t be afraid to experiment; carbonated vodka drinks anyone? Starting at $129.99.
